On Friday of the conference we shall be visiting the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL), which is operated by the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC). The facilities, used by universities and other research institutions from around the world, include the ISIS neutron source and the Central Laser Facility (CLF). During the day will also be a Careers Panel, featuring women working for local science and technology-based companies.
ISIS is used to study condensed matter, from subatomic properties to macromolecular behaviour, whilst the CLF investigates the wide-ranging applications of high-energy lasers. Conference attendees will be visiting a selection of ISIS, CLF, Scientific Computing, the Research Complex and the Technology Department. More information on the facilities at RAL and the research that is carried out there can be found on their website.
